Different products are assayed in different ways. This means that most of them have a narrow field of application. Because of these features, it is not difficult to characterize the precious metal.

How many samples exist in Russia

Gold is an alloy composed of ligatures. The additives change the color of the material, making it resistant to mechanical stress, ductility, corrosion resistance, fluidity, and fusibility at higher temperatures. All these properties make the precious metal even more valuable. However, it is not the content of the ligature that is taken into account in assaying.

The metric system involves determining the number of milligrams of pure gold in 1 gram of alloy.

Another meaning of the hallmark is the number of fractions of the precious material per 100 fractions of the metal that goes through the assay procedure. Gold assay in Russia is different: from 375 to 999. All jewelry items are subject to assaying. The exceptions are varieties of jewelry that have been melted down and repaired.

They are without a sample, however, this is a variant of the norm. It is still possible to determine the content of the precious metal in such products.

According to the standard, items with at least 30% gold in their composition are subject to assaying. Their value decreases as the amount of precious metal decreases, from 999 to 375. Other assays differ in numerical value, which makes it possible to recognize products:

• 850, 900 and 950 are platinum;
• 500, 850 - palladium;
• 875, 900, 925 - silver.

It is impossible to mix up the metals. For example, there is no such thing as a 925 gold assay. No one has the right to set it at their discretion, because the assay is conducted by the Assay Office of the Ministry of Finance. This is a state body that uses special algorithms when dealing with gold items. Therefore, the presence of the hallmark is an important criterion for assessing the authenticity of the jewelry.

In addition, on a gold bracelet, earrings, necklaces and other jewelry you can see another mark - mark the manufacturer with the date of manufacture.

Highest gold standard

Determining the proportion of precious metal in an alloy is not difficult. For example, a 750 piece contains 75% of gold. The highest metric system assay is 1000. Such metal is chemically pure gold. However, its properties (wear resistance, strength, elasticity) are inferior to those of the alloy.

For this reason, it is not used for the production of different products.

If we consider the bankable precious metal, it is somewhat different. The bullion is 999. It is considered to be the best metal - the benchmark. However, it is not used for remelting in order to produce different products. Bullion is an investment. Accordingly, a different composition of metal is in circulation between individuals.

Gold jewelry grades

Alloy with different characteristics is used for the production of various products. This is due to the fact that in any field products are exposed to certain factors. The appearance and performance characteristics are different in each case. These parameters are influenced by the content of the precious metal. Given that jewelry is often subjected to significant wear and tear, gold alloy with certain characteristics is used:

• the minimum amount of precious metal is 37.5%;
• the maximum permissible fraction is 75%.

There can be no more valuable material in jewelry. Even products 750 are inferior in characteristics to less expensive metals: they scratch quickly and become deformed. It requires more care and regular grinding and polishing. To increase resistance to stress, you should consider other types of gold products. Today you can find jewels in different shades. They contain a different proportion of the precious metal, different combinations of ligatures. The jewels that are obtained in the production process:

• white;
• red;
• yellow;
• pink;
• purple;
• blue, etc.

But not all types of products with these characteristics are durable. You should study the composition of each variant in order to choose the more durable one. Among the varieties discussed above, there are those that are inferior to others in terms of durability. If you need to buy the most attractive, but at the same time wear-resistant jewelry, it is recommended to study the types that differ in shade:

• white: contains materials of the platinum group, the main advantage is the attractiveness - a noble luster, as well as durability;
• Red: a universal material, used for a long time, belongs to the group of jewelry with the most familiar shade (like yellow), characterized by a medium strength index;
• yellow - a classic option, also has a medium wear resistance.

However, the strength characteristics are also affected by the ratio of the ligatures. For example, white precious metal is represented by different kinds. This group includes both more and less durable jewelry. The choice should be made when purchasing.

It is not recommended to be guided by shade.

The least suitable are blue jewels. They are made of brittle material. The ratio of ligatures is not considered to be the best in terms of durability. However, in terms of attractiveness, such jewels can surpass varieties made of white material.

There are still green, pink, blue, purple jewels. If it is important to get jewelry with better durability characteristics, it is better not to consider them. But we cannot say that such varieties are worn much worse than their red, yellow or white counterparts. It's just that they are distinguished by rather average properties.

This is due to the high content of ligatures, their combination.

USSR gold assay

Previously, there was a system for evaluating the quality of the alloy. It ceased to be used in 1927. At that time, gold of the 1st standard corresponded to the standard - it was the 56th standard. When converted to the modern system, you can get an alloy containing 58.3% of precious metal. Earlier this metal was used to make jewelry.

Today this variety is not in demand.

In 2000, the gold standard in Russia became the 585 grade.The alloy contains 58.5% of gold (the percentages indicate the content of the precious metal). This is the most popular material, which is used to produce wedding rings, wedding crosses and other products. However, this metal is less expensive than higher-value alloys.

Other materials were also used in the USSR. In addition to alloy 583, 375, 500, 750, 916, 958, 999 are also noted. Today, 583 items are losing relevance. Now 585 jewelry is used. They are difficult to distinguish from less valuable (583). Such products look the same. Only an expert can understand what the difference is. This is due to too small a difference in the amounts of precious metal. In addition, earlier, the owners of 583 alloy products expressed dissatisfaction - their color gradually changed. Rings, earrings were getting darker.

Now scrap with these characteristics is cheaper than 585.
